NICOLAS MICHAUX ENEMIES

Belgian indie maestro Nicolas Michaux has delivered a track which is, on the surface, a catchy track with inspirations coming from the likes of Belle & Sebastian and The Kinks. Below the wandering synths, warm guitars and pounding drums, Michaux’s lyrics take things deeper. “When you turn 30 and have a child, being broke becomes less and less fun,” he explains, as he looks at the teachings of Bernard Friot, a sociologist and advocate for lifetime salary. It’s not exactly the lyrical theme you’d expect from ‘Enemies’, but Michaux’s impressive ability to craft something so catchy around a serious subject is endearing. His new album, Amour Colère drops on September 25th. -Dan Peeke
